About the Artist

Barb continues her family's tradition of artistic expression.

Her father, Willard Luthy, was a glass bender, sign creator, and muralist. Mr. Luthy also painted in oil and pastel. He bought Barb her first easel as a child and he taught her to mix her colors.

Barb sketched and experimented with oil painting as a child and throughout high school and college.  At present, Barb specializes in water soluble oil, acrylic and watercolor in a variety of subjects.

Barb's own words:   "I have a basic need to paint. It is pure joy and fulfillment, not work. It's as if time does not exist and my spirit is soaring onto the canvas. Some of my teachers that made an impression on me were: Barb Liedel, Fran Maedel, Terry Madden, David Buckley Good, McCreery Jordan, Brenda Harris, Charlene Quiel, Heiner Hertling, and Durwood Coffey."

Barb's latest artistic interest is Lighthouses; their location, settings, construction type, and of course, the details.  She published a Lighthouse calendar for 2014 and is currently working on a new calendar which will be available from the Book Nook in Monroe or from the artist.

Many of her works are available in prints,  postcards or notecards.  Contact Barb for more information.
