The Monroe Art League  was founded in September of 1959 by a group of local artists interested in encouraging artistic talent and appreciation of fine art in the community.  Those goals
continue with our members
today.

Our mission is to "promote fine art
in Monroe County, to encourage
 artistic talent, be a showcase
for our members and their
work, and to stimulate art
appreciation within the
community".

As membership grew, the organization hosted exhibitions in various venues, both indoors and out.

Some art related activities open to the public were adult classes, children's classes, and children's exhibitions, with scholarships awarded to high school students.

Many member exhibitions are currently presented in conjunction with various community events, and each Fall we sponsor a Members Only Juried Show, held at the Ellis Library and Reference Center. The public is invited to view the work submitted for the show.

Art in the Community:
Art League members exhibit their  work in local businesses and public buildings, rotating both artwork and venues.  Many such exhibits are ongoing and are called "Spot Shows".  Durocher's and the United Way office host exhibits, as well as several Monroe Bank and Trust offices and selected Monroe County branch libraries and additional businesses.   The exhibits run for a period of three months.

Much of the work exhibited is available for sale.
