About the Artist "Painting is a language which cannot be replaced by another language." Balthus I would like to think that my paintings are like a conversation among friends; hopefully a pleasant and not too strident conversation. I studied art and art history at The Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, The University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama (where I grew up), and The University of South Carolina, not graduating from any of them before joining the army in 1969. My major artistic (and other) influence has been my father, William Tidwell, who was a student of the precisionist painter Ralston Crawford and retired as the head of the art department at Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina.
